Before you build or buy, you need to know what you are solving and what success looks like. Discovery and strategy is the phase where we align on the problem, validate assumptions, and define a path forward. That might mean a short engagement (e.g. two to six weeks) to produce a written scope and recommendation. It might mean a deeper technical discovery to assess your current state and propose an architecture. It might mean an ongoing strategy role as you execute. We help you de-risk the path from idea to delivery by answering the right questions up front: what to build, what to buy, and in what order.
What we deliver
We deliver problem validation and scope, build vs buy and architecture, and the path from discovery to delivery. In practice that means we work with you to articulate the problem (who has it, what they need, what good looks like), to validate that the problem is worth solving (e.g. through data, interviews, or lightweight experiments), and to define scope (what is in, what is out, what are the phases). We also help with build vs buy: when it makes sense to build in-house, when to buy or integrate a vendor, and when to partner with a specialist like us. We produce clear deliverables: a written recommendation, optional architecture or roadmap, and a proposed next step (e.g. pilot, full build, or no go). We do not pad discovery to sell a big project; we will tell you if we think the problem is not ready or if a simpler approach is better.
Who this is for
This service is for organizations that are at the beginning of a significant initiative and want to de-risk it before committing. You may have a vague sense of what you need (e.g. modernize lending, add ML, improve operations) but not a clear scope or roadmap. You may be evaluating build vs buy and want an independent view. You may have tried to scope internally but need an external partner to challenge assumptions and bring experience from similar engagements. We work with leadership, product, and technical teams to align on the problem and the path forward.
How we work
We start with a discovery conversation (often a discovery call, as we offer on this site). We listen to your goals, constraints, and current state. We then propose a discovery engagement: duration, deliverables, and cost. A typical engagement might be two to six weeks with a mix of workshops, interviews, and technical assessment. We produce a written deliverable (e.g. scope document, recommendation, roadmap) and a clear next step. If the next step is a build or pilot, we can propose that separately so you can decide with full information. We do not use discovery as a loss leader; we charge fairly for it and we are transparent about what we will and will not recommend.
Outcomes you can expect
You can expect a clear articulation of the problem and a recommendation you can act on. That might be a go recommendation with a proposed scope and phases, a no-go recommendation with reasons, or a recommendation to do more validation (e.g. a pilot) before a full build. You will have a written document you can share with stakeholders and use to secure budget or approval. You will also have a clear next step: book a build, run a pilot, or pause and revisit. We aim to leave you with clarity, not more confusion.
Why AmpFi
We have run discovery and strategy engagements for lending and fintech. We understand the domain, the technology options, and the trade-offs. We are from the team behind a Techstars-backed fintech, so we think like operators: we care about what will actually work in production and what will be maintainable. We do not recommend the most expensive option; we recommend what fits. If you are at the start of an initiative and want to align on scope and path, book a discovery call. We will listen, ask questions, and tell you whether a discovery engagement makes sense and what it would look like.
